SCHOOL INDUCTION PROGRAMME
(30 oct 2025 - 5 Nov 2025)
As a part of the B.Ed curriculum, we participated in the School Induction Programme conducted from 30th October to 5th November at Mulamkadakam School, West Kollam. The programme aimed at providing student teachers with first-hand experience of the real school environment and familiarizing us with the academic as well as administrative functioning of a school.
Four student teachers took part in the induction programme, including two trainees from the Commerce department and two from the English department. The programme offered meaningful opportunities to observe classroom teaching, understand student behaviour, and interact closely with teachers and learners.
During the induction period, we were assigned teaching responsibilities that included three individual classes and one shared class. Each trainee handled classes related to their subject specialization. Prior lesson planning and the use of appropriate teaching methods enabled us to conduct classes effectively. These teaching experiences helped us translate theoretical knowledge into practical application while improving our confidence, communication skills, and classroom management abilities.
We were also given substitution classes whenever necessary. Managing these classes allowed us to develop adaptability and quick decision-making skills while handling different classroom situations independently. It enhanced our ability to respond to diverse learning needs and maintain discipline effectively.
An important aspect of the programme was our involvement in serving the Mid-Day Meal to students. This activity helped us understand the importance of school welfare programmes and the teacher’s role in ensuring students’ physical well-being along with academic growth. Participating in this activity promoted responsibility, cooperation, and empathy among us.
Throughout the programme, we observed daily school routines, disciplinary practices, teacher-student interactions, and administrative procedures. The support and guidance provided by the headmaster, teachers, and non-teaching staff contributed greatly to making the experience meaningful and informative.
In conclusion, the School Induction Programme was a highly enriching experience that provided practical exposure to the teaching profession. It strengthened our professional values, enhanced our teaching competencies, and bridged the gap between theoretical learning and real classroom practice, thereby preparing us for future responsibilities as teachers.
