Monument visit 2025

                               Monument visit

                                    (24/10/2025)

Monuments are remarkable structures that reflect the history, culture, and artistic achievements of a nation. They stand as symbols of the past, reminding us of the lives, struggles, and creativity of our ancestors. Each monument tells its own story, representing values such as devotion, glory, and artistic excellence. Through their art and architecture, monuments help preserve our cultural heritage and serve as important educational sources for future generations, helping us understand how people lived and thought over time.

As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, the first-year students of HKM College of Education, Umayanalloor, visited Thangassery Lighthouse and Thangassery Fort in Kollam. During the visit, the students experienced the beauty and historical value of these monuments firsthand. The monuments clearly reflected the blend of European architectural style and local heritage, enriching the students’ understanding of history and architecture through direct observation.

Thangassery Fort was constructed by the Portuguese and later came under Dutch influence. The fort reflects European architectural style blended with local elements. It played an important role in trade and defense during the colonial period. The monument highlights the historical interactions between India and European powers.

Thangassery Lighthouse is one of the prominent landmarks in Kollam district. Built during the British period, it stands as a symbol of maritime history and guidance for ships along the coast. The lighthouse offers a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and reflects European engineering techniques. It also helps students understand the importance of navigation and coastal safety in history.
